November 3, 2021 - Functional Check Flight

My fuel flow sensor has been erractic the last few months.  It will be working normally for awhile, then suddenly show me burning 2-3 gph more.  And I never moved the throttle!   So I bought the bullet and ordered a new fuel flow sensor, the famous "Red Cube".  Today I got around to installing it.  It was one of the easier installations I've had to do.  Remove the old one, install the new one, connect three wires.

Of course, the Red Cube is in the middle of the fuel lines.  It's pretty important to make sure there are no leaks.  So after installation, I left the cowl off and ran the fuel pump.  Then got out and looked.  No leaks.  Then I started the engine up and did a pre-flight run-up.  Again, I shut the engine down, got out, and looked.  Still no leaks.  Finally, I put the cowl on, started the engine up, took off, landed immediately, and looked again.  No leaks.

So then I did a short, foliage flight over Millers Island.  I forgot to bring my digital camera so I only took a few pictures with the iPhone.

The colors weren't at peak yet.

Back at Essex Skypark, my hangar neighbor Tom is installing new Alaska Bush Wheels on his Maule.  That is one BIG tire.
